Banking & Currency Services Department

This Department handles the supply of currency in the community to facilitate cash transactions and ensures the quality and integrity of legal tender notes and coins. It is also responsible for banking and settlement services to the Government, banks, and international organizations and payments system issues more generally.

Include in these are:

  • The issue of currency notes and coins to the commercial banks and their return. Part of this job involves forecasting the future needs for new notes and coins and ordering supplies to ensure that demand can be met.
  • The provision of assistance to collectors of notes and coins, a job often known as the provision of numismatic services.
  • The settlement of transactions, both domestic and international, between the Bank and the commercial banks and handling the banking business of the Bank's other customers.
